It’s no secret that modest fashion has gained traction in recent years. Images in the media and social media of models in maxi dresses, flowy pants and even headscarves – whether or not they’re specifically called hijab – have paved the way for modest fashion to hit mainstream clothing stores.
When it comes to modest fashion, you may be familiar with tunic tops and maxi dresses, but have you ever tried the palazzo pant? These bold, wide-leg pants are bound to make a statement. But, if they make you a little nervous, never fear – I’m here to show you that these versatile beauties are nothing to shy away from.
With their ever-so-flowy structure and high-waisted fit, palazzo pants are the perfect piece for those hot and humid summer days when the last thing you want to wear is a pair of jeans, or for chilly days when you really just want that extra “hug” of fabric. Plus, with the numerous ways you can dress them up or down, you can wear them to any occasion -- and no one will even notice that you’re wearing the same pair of pants!
Casual Day Out
For this look, we’re reimagining jean jackets, t-shirts, button-ups and sneakers. Maybe you’re a busy mom running some errands before grabbing lunch with friends, so maximum comfort while still looking put-together is key. Or, maybe you’re going to the farmers market with the family early Sunday morning and  want to snap some cute, casual outfit-of-the-day photos.
Whatever your flavor, the trick to mastering the casual palazzo pant is to select the right length. Try to find a pair that just skims the tops of your shoes. This length balances the proportion of the wide palazzo leg with flats while still looking modern and polished. Similarly, you want to choose a top not much longer than the waistband of your pants, or tuck in your shirt to avoid adding extra bulk to your midsection.
Here are a few real examples of some of our our favorite Insta-people rocking the casual palazzo pant:

In this look, we love how Leena tucks her dainty ruffled blouse into these bold plum palazzos, then balances the look with classic white tennies. These pants are the perfect length to keep her looking tall without having to wear heels – oh-so-cute and cool for that weekend trip to the coffee shop.

Here I am in Egypt with my sleepy baby! When I spotted these super wide-legged palazzos at a local boutique, I knew they would be the perfect piece of clothing for my trip – stylish, but with that built-in ventilation you need for the warm desert climate. Paired with a simple puffed-sleeve button-down to balance the busy floral print and some sparkly sneakers for a touch of glam, this look was one of my go-to’s (and can also be your go-to) all summer long.

The Monochromatic Look
Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of achieving a monochromatic look. If you are on a mission to make a bold statement, then this is for you, because there is nothing boring about sporting one eye-catching color from head to toe! Pick your color, start with your hijab and work your way to your shoes! Paired with a chunky sweater for cooler months, or a simple button down in warmer seasons, you will definitely turn heads as you walk down the street.

Here we have our one and only Melanie Elturk rocking an all yellow look – yes, all yellow! You don’t have to go this bold with the color if it’s too much for you, but the idea is to stick to the same color, or color palette, and find pieces that will work together effortlessly. She’s paired her palazzos with a simple button down that is identical in fabric. Some people might even mistake this outfit for a jumpsuit due to it’s seamless flow from top to bottom.

This is my personal favorite palazzo pant look, and it’s perfect for those cold winter months. There is something about pairing a beautiful, chunky, oversized sweater with a flowy bottom-like palazzo pants that is very aesthetically pleasing. You may feel like it’s too much volume or fabric, but the flow of the pants work with the chunkiness of the sweater! Here, Melanie has kept it chic as always, paired with red heels and her signature red power hijab. With a matching red lip and her sunnies, you know she means business!

If you’re into into the collard look, pair your palazzos with a white crisp-collared button up, a v-neck pullover and a printed HH hijab with some flats or heels, and you’ve set yourself up for success! They say you should dress for the role you’d like to be in, and these tips, along with your skill set will sure to get you higher up in the office hierarchy.

Melanie is at it again with her colorful palette, and we just can’t get enough! Although it may seem like a lot, the trick is to find one piece that will serve as your focal point and then work with the colors in that piece to complete your look. Here Melanie decided to grab our attention with this beautiful printed top. By taking different colors from the print for her palazzos and hijab, she has created an ensemble that is both playful and put-together. You normally may not pair a berry-colored hijab with pumpkin-colored palazzo’s, but the top effortlessly pulls it all together.

The Kimono Look
Kimonos have become an extremely popular piece in recent years, and I can’t think of anything more perfect than a beautiful flowing kimono paired with some palazzo pants. They come in various styles and lengths, and many hijabis have duly noted that these styles often function the same as an open abaya. How great is it to have so many modest options so widely available?
Once again, the trick to nailing this look is all about proportion. A longer kimono better balances the flowiness of the look than a shorter one that cuts across the upper leg, and it makes the whole silhouette look tall and elegant.

The always-beautiful Omaya pairs a monochromatic palazzo pant look with a blush-hued kimono-style abaya and hijab for an effortlessly chic look! We love how she kept the base outfit in crisp white so that the applique detail on the abaya can really shine. She’s also balanced the length of her palazzos with the kimono by sticking to an ankle length pant as to not overwhelm the look. Paired with some nude heels to add height and sophistication, this look is perfect for special events or dinner parties, and is giving us arabesque feels in a sleek, understated way.
Pro tip: Shopping for a white palazzo pant is one area to consider splurging a little more – white clothes that aren’t transparent can be hard to find, but higher-quality pants tend to have more substantial fabrics that are more likely to be opaque.

Staying true to the light and airy feel of neutrals, Leena has us swooning over this look that is perfect for your next vacation! This simple yet chic getup consists of a pair of breezy palazzos to keep you cool and a classic denim shirt tied at the waist to add a playful touch. This also helps shorten the length of the top and adds an interesting effect, as does tucking in a blouse. Her kimono adds extra coverage and flair, paired with some cute slides for a laid back look. This is the perfect outfit for the perfect getaway!
Going out to a romantic dinner later that evening? Swap the slides for heels, add some accessories like a chain or statement necklace, paint a bold lip, and you’ve effortlessly transformed your casual day time look to date night in no time!
