According to ancient Chinese legend, Empress Hsi Ling Shi discovered silk three thousand years ago when a cocoon fell into her teacup from an overhanging mulberry tree and began to unravel. Ever since, silk’s incredible resilience and beautiful luster have made it one the most coveted fabrics on earth. Modern technology has produced hundreds of new fabric innovations, yet none have surpassed silk’s inherent quality and beauty.
Pure silk is 100% natural – never synthetic – luminously soft and beautifully strong, making it the perfect fabric to create a hijab as beautiful as it is comfortable.
There’s no better way to elevate your every day than with nature’s original super thread. Thousands of years of rich history are carefully woven into each strand to create its incredible quality and signature luster.
Here are some things that set silk apart from other fabrics:
Silk is known as 'nature's superthread.' It's a natural protein fiber spun by silkworms to create their cocoons. Its fibers are extremely fine, but strong as steel in tensile strength.
Silk is as gentle as it is strong, making it the perfect choice for those with allergies to synthetic fabrics – or just those who would rather wear the very best in quality. Its fibers are similar to those that make up your hair, so rest assured – wearing a silk hijab will be the healthiest choice for your skin and hair. No need for any compromises here!
Silk is extremely versatile. Compared to cotton, silk has a much lower density and can absorb as much as a third of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. Helloooo summer hijab! As if it could get any better, silk fibers also have heat-conductive properties, meaning it'll keep you warm during the winter months!
Silk has a radiant luminosity. In fact, this is one of the characteristics that make silk such a majestic and coveted fabric! Its luster comes from the silk fiber's triangular prism-like structure, which allows it to refract light at different angles.
While many have tried to imitate the look and feel of pure silk, silk remains in a class by itself. It's important to note that many fabrics that are labeled as 'silk' might not truly be made of silk. In fabric vernacular, polyester material can often be referred to as 'silk' or 'silk satin' even though it's synthetic. As such, a good indicator of whether something is made of 100% pure natural silk or not is its price. Pure silk may be more expensive, but if you've ever experienced its splendor firsthand, you'd know it's worth its weight in gold.
