Invest in Quality Fabrics - You Get What You Pay For
We’ve all heard the adage “you get what you pay for.” This philosophy is tried and true with fabric. Synthetic fabrics such as polyester, rayon, viscose and nylon are cheaper fabrics that tend to be less flattering and lose their shape quickly. Higher quality natural fabrics like cotton, silk, wool and linen hold their shape, last longer and fit better, thus costing more.
Getting what you pay for does not necessarily translate into retail clothing. A top for $100 may be worth the price if it is made of a higher quality natural fabric. However, if the top is made of rayon, you’re most likely paying too much for the garment. The higher quality top will last longer, fit better and withstand more washes before losing shape. The synthetic fabric top may lose shape the second after you wash it and will not be as flattering on your body. This is not to say the rayon top is not worth buying - you may be paying for other factors like a unique style, one-of-a-kind print or fresh off the runway trend.
$149 Ralph Lauren Silk Top $138 BCBG Polyester Top
Comparing these two tops, you can instantly see a difference in the fit and construction between a natural vs. synthetic fabric. Even though both items are roughly the same price you are getting what you pay for with the Ralph Lauren top, but hardly for the BCBG polyester top. When shopping for clothing, the question you have to ask yourself is: are you more concerned about the amount of clothes hanging in your closet, or the quality of pieces that you know fit well and look great?
So while getting what you pay for may not always be the rule for retail clothing, it is always the rule for fabric. Be sure to check the fabric content of every item you buy. Also look at the construction of the garment - look for securely sewn seams and tightly stitched hems. A quality garment should be sewn with the utmost care and should also fit perfectly. You shouldn’t have to tug at your top or cinch the waist with a belt for it to fit.
At Haute Hijab, we take pride in the high quality fabrics we use for our pieces and are content knowing our pieces will last longer, hold their shape and fit beautifully. We use only the best natural fiber fabrics such as cotton, silk and wool. Our philosophy always puts quality first and we hope you will too.
