You guys probably know by now that I am *all* about a bold, red hijab. (I call it my 'power' hijab ;) Whatever I do, I do it with intention and passion. I love expressing that through clothing, usually with classic silhouettes and occasionally some really bold hues.
When you wear a color like this, it needs to be done in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident – otherwise you’ll feel out of place when you could be owning it! Read on for my tips on how to style a red hijab in a sophisticated yet powerful way.
1) Incorporate Red Elsewhere in Your Look
It’s important to make sure your hijab color doesn’t feel like an afterthought. A great way to do this is to incorporate red elsewhere in your outfit! I do this by pairing my red hijab with a matching bag, belt or shoes. I am LOVING
these,
this and
this. Another way I do this is to wear a print that has red in it like the
outfit below I wore to NYFW (I'm wearing the Georgette in
Fire Engine Red). This keeps the overall look feeling cohesive and polished.
2) Red & Leopard are ALWAYS a Good Idea
I've been all about this combo for some time (Below I'm wearing a leopard hijab not red, but you get the idea 😉). Red and leopard look GREAT paired with ivory or black for a sleek, classic look (I am loving this coat from
Theory and this belt from
Halogen). The colors pick up on the tones of the leopard print and look positively *beautiful.*
3) Go bold in a Monochromatic Head-to-Toe Red Look
Don’t be afraid of an all red look. A monochromatic statement looks sleek and incredibly tasteful. The key to
this look I wore during NYFW below is to try and make sure all the red hues are as similar as possible. I'm wearing the Everyday Chiffon in
Lipstick Red. Check out my fave red pieces to achieve a head-to-toe red look in this
Winter Glam post under 'All Things Red.'
4) An Unlikely Yet Fresh Combo: Red & Pink
These two colors are a GREAT way to add some exciting nuance to your outfit like I did with the
look below, again during NYFW. To pull this off flawlessly, pair our Essential Silk Hijab in
Classic Red with a pink pantsuit (love
this and
this one) or pieces that already incorporate red and pink color-blocking like this
skirt or this
sweater.
5) When in Doubt, Stick With Neutrals
If you’re nervous about pairing colors together but want to dip your toes in the water then camel, ivory, blush and navy are some great colors to start with! Let the color speak for itself by surrounding it with some simple yet powerful neutrals. I paired our Premium Jersey in
Cherry with a navy/white gingham that was the perfect all-American look.
