As salaamu alaikum and hello everyone!
How is it August already? It can feel so wearisome, with the COVID-19 global pandemic still wreaking havoc and social distancing/masking measures very much so in place, despite what others may think or believe. As a friend of mine said, "I know we all want to feel normal again. I know that we are trying lots of variations on existing activities to give ourselves a sense of connection. I get it!"
I get it, too. What can we do to find that sense of "normalcy" (whatever that means), that stability we need? It means different things for different people, whether planning fun staycations, creating "pods" to see certain family/friends or planning for the start of school.
Here at Haute Hijab, we have some exciting things coming up that have been in the works for what feels like ages – new and improved hijabs and accessories (Rose Gold Magnets, anyone?) helping to fulfill a mission and vision that has been so crucial to our brand from the get-go. You have may have noticed that our Wovens have been woefully depleted on our site for weeks now. That's because we are getting ready to introduce a newer, better and most importantly, more sustainable Bamboo Woven Hijabs in September!
I can't tell you how excited I am about this! Our Wovens have been my favorite type of hijab because they wrap so lightly and securely without pins or slippage. I am especially in love with our maxi Wovens, because I am draper in my hijab style. That we are getting ready to reintroduce our Woven Hijabs, made from a more sustainable bamboo material, is an extremely exciting development in our push to create more eco-friendly hijabs and continue to weave sustainable business practices throughout our work at HH.
Why is bamboo such a sustainable material? We'll be exploring that in upcoming blog posts!
It is incumbent upon all of us to do our part as stewards of this earth. We've been on this journey for years, with sourcing our printed chiffons from deadstock fabric, creating our Ultimate Underscarves from Pyratex and working hard to bring you this new Wovens line and our upcoming Athletics launch, which features hijabs made from a unique, more climate-friendly fabric.
I've been neck-deep in research to educate myself about all this and brainstorming stories and blog posts for you that dive deep into what sustainability for hijabs (and the fashion industry as a whole) mean. It's very exciting and truly interesting stuff, and I can't wait for you all to read about and see what we've been doing and, of course, invest in these new hijabs!
Also coming up on the blog this month are a number of stories on preparing for the upcoming school year. Many of our children will be going virtual again; some will be homeschooling and some may be returning to in-person classes. We will be exploring all this as well as bringing you tips from a mom who is an expert in homeschooling and e-learning on how to help your children learn more effectively in a virtual setting.
As we transition from our Live Boldly to our Live Thoughtfully campaign (where we encourage our communities to think deeply and live thoughtfully in all areas of life, which includes sustainable fashion choices), we're also continuing our ChangeMakers series, bringing you dynamic Muslim women affecting all sorts of change in their communities!
As always, we are here to keep you in the know about all things hijab and modest fashion and whatever issues and stories are important to us in our communities. We are all ChangeMakers in our own lives! May we good choices and always say Bismillah-hir-rahman-nir-raheem.
Editorially yours,
Dilshad
