It's no secret that Asma of Haute Muslimah is one of our favorite bloggers (and not just for our shared love for the word "Haute!") and we've had the pleasure of teaming up with her again! She is guest blogging for us about what else? Haute Hijab! Read on for Asma's article on the peplum - this Spring's hottest look.
Peplum for Spring 2012
Spotted on the runways at shows like Cushnie Et Ochs, Bouchra Jarrar, and Jason Wu (among so many others), it's no surprise that Peplum is the hottest silhouette for spring. The shape is so feminine and perfect for a nighttime party look. Julianne Moore wore a Chanel peplum dress to the Golden Globes recently, and Emma Stone was the epitome of perfection in a Giambattista Valli skirt and top at a movie premier.
It might seem like a difficult trend to pull off but it's all in the design. The celebrity looks above might actually be hard to wear, especially if you're a woman with curves. Melanie actually created a beautiful gown here at Haute Hijab, the Polished Peplum Skirt, which is just genius. First of all, props to her for being ahead of the game here! And second, this skirt is something that real women can actually wear. The best thing about it, according to the model wearing it below right, Deniz, is that, "Even though the shirt you wear with it is tucked in, your behind is still covered!"

I think one of the most annoying things for me is when I'm trying to dress modestly and I want to tuck my shirt into my skirt, one of my favorite looks ever, it's impossible to cover the back of me! And this is where peplum comes to the rescue. Like I said, genius. Because the skirt itself is such a statement piece, it's easy to accessorize. Pair it with a wide belt, like Deniz above, or a chunky necklace like Melanie. I definitely don't recommend doing both, stick to one awesome piece or you might look overdone. Top it off with a bright or printed scarf, a colorful clutch, and you're good to go!
