Lily Steele, the Real Deal.
1. What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
Honestly, eat. I love a good meal, especially one that is shared with people who make me laugh.
2. What are your hobbies? What are your dream hobbies?
I was on a crew team when I was in college and I really miss it! My current dream is to find the time to pick up rowing in New York.
3. What is something you hate doing?
Messaging people. It drives me crazy that we now have like 9 different apps on our phones that we have to check regularly for correspondence. I would much rather use that time to talk to the people I'm actually with in person!
4. If you could eat something on an endless loop, what would it be?
Rice and beans with a little bit of avocado! It is super tasty and extremely cost-effective!
5. What feeds your soul/when are you at your happiest/best?
80s anthems! I love to dance to 80s anthems!
Portrait of a young legend.
6. Who do you look up to the most and why? (Living or dead.)
Recently it has been my sister Ali. I have worked with her at Haute Hijab for almost 9 months now, and it is really cool to get to see my sister be such a total boss at her job. She is also incredibly kind and insightful and straight-up hilarious.
7. What is something, if you could go back and change in your life, that you would?
The bob I got in 4th grade. That haircut was wider than it was tall!
8. What is your biggest challenge in life?
Eating responsible amounts of food. The number of times I've had to sleep it off after a run-in with a pizza...
9. What is something about you that people would be surprised to know?
I can eat an entire pizza.

10. What is that big dream thing you want to accomplish in life? Or if not one thing, a few things?
Remember to buy more toilet paper...before I run out.
11. To the non-Muslims at Haute Hijab – what is your favorite OR not-so-favorite thing about working at a Muslim-owned company? Or, what is one thing you’ve learned that surprised you about Muslims?
I love that Arabic is such a huge part of the the Muslim faith! It's really striking to me that you can be a Muslim from anywhere in the world and you still pray in the same language.
12. What does a typical Friday night look like for you?
Usually having dinner with friends.
13. What’s the strangest or most fun family tradition you have?
My siblings like to do this thing they call “Love Forever” where they all surround me and hug/tickle me and try to give me sloppy kisses all over my face like a bunch of heathens 😳. There are 5 of them and I am on the shorter end, so it's kind of like getting buried under a human mountain of affection. I am very claustrophobic so I usually freak out and end up gasping for air in the fetal position. Smh.
I love them though.

14. Cat person or dog person (or some other kind of animal)?
Dog! Cats terrify me. Am going to need to figure that out when I inevitably need to collect many of them for comfort later in my life.
15. If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be and why?
Hmm...work hard, be kind and don’t undervalue a little short-term happiness.
