Salam! My name is DeeQa and I'm a 27 year old style blogger from Leicester, United Kingdom. I love sharing make-up and outfit ideas on my blog Dees Presence and on Instagram @queen___d.
I know what goes on in a woman’s mind when it comes to clothes. It tells you that you don’t have anything to wear even though you’ve been shopping last weekend and probably the weekend before! We women can never have enough clothes.
I can definitely relate but at one point I had to tell myself enough is enough. I think I reached that point when I saw myself getting rid of clothes just to buy new ones. A habit I developed when I ran out of storage spaces and one I had to stop in order to keep my sanity! The truth is you don’t need to shop till’ you drop because you probably have enough clothes to sustain you for the next coming year’s summer, spring and winter. Here are some tips to help you become an EX-shopaholic.
1) Don’t go window shopping.
We all know window shopping often leads to purchases being made. You tell yourself you’re just walking in to see what’s available and then exit the shop with new clothes. Sound familiar?
2) Don’t visit online clothing stores.
I used to do this in-between studying and I almost always couldn’t resist buying whatever it was that I fancied at the time.
Shop for what you really need and not want.
This is a classic problem and to avoid doing this you will need strong willpower. The trick that helped me overcome this issue is to take time to think about the item that you “really need.” For example, if an item is online I would add it to my favorites list and come back to it a week later. At that point I usually don’t feel the same way about it so I don’t buy it. Most things look more appealing when you see them the first time.
4) Swap Clothes on www.vinted.com
Post clothes on vinted for swapping.
Organize your wardrobe.
This helps you remember (in case you forgot) how many clothes you have. And having an organized wardrobe helps when choosing an outfit to wear. It also makes you realize just how many unworn items you have. I used to buy things
with the notion of ‘I will wear this one day’ and that day would never come. I think it’s high time you ripped the label off of those items and started rocking them.
Borrow clothes from sisters or friends.
This is the easiest way to get your hands on some great new clothes.
7) Don’t spend too much time in a shop.
We all need to treat ourselves to something new from time to time. I like to buy a nice accessory to refresh my wardrobe when I get paid as I’ve worked hard all month. When I enter a shop I stop and look around from a distance. If nothing catches my eye immediately I exit the shop. I do this because I know if I browse through things rail for rail, item for item, I’d end up buying more than I bargained for.
8) Look inside your mom's wardrobe.
I love the vintage items in my mom’s wardrobe; you may be able to find a thing or two to add to your collection.
9) Learn to sew.
If you have the money and time, do it. It will change your life forever. You will save a lot of money making your own clothes.
10) Don’t follow trends. Keep it classic.
Following trends can be extremely costly. Instead buy classic, timeless items that you can wear year after year.
Staying in fashion doesn’t have to be a costly endeavor. I learned to be fashionable wearing clothes that I’ve owned for years. I wish you all the best on the road in becoming an EX-shopaholic.
