We're so excited to have you on board Farisha!

When did you start wearing hijab?

I started wearing the hijab when I was 20 years old. I had just finished my first year of college, met tons of new people, and was exposed to a diverse set of beliefs and ideologies. I often found myself caught in discussions and debates about religion and government, and that’s what prompted me to look into the origin and validity of the Abrahamic faiths. Throughout my research I found myself gravitating ever closer to Islam and finally decided to don the headscarf in the winter of 2007. It wasn't an easy journey, but I've learned to wear the hijab confidently and take pride in the values I represent by wearing it. Alhamdulillah, a single article of clothing has brought more light and blessings to my life than I can count. I hope to continue and improve throughout my journey as a muslim woman, inshAllah.

What do you love most about hijab?

I’ve always tended to be rather fashion conscious, so when the weather is hot or an outfit just isn't working with my hijab, it can get pretty frustrating. In the end, however, I always stop and ask myself why I started wearing the scarf to begin with –and suddenly it isn’t so hard anymore. I believe women have the choice to view the hijab as a chore, or a symbol of allegiance to their faith. I think that's what makes hijab so beautiful: the fact that it is a form of utter submission to Allah SWT above all else. When you realize that you're wearing a piece of clothing for your Creator and not for the people around you, there is really nothing more satisfying, Alhamdulillah.

What do you love most about Haute Hijab?

There is a confidence issue that inhibits many of us from practicing hijab confidently, especially in the West, and Haute Hijab really strives to resolve that problem. I feel that Haute Hijab is the answer for Muslim women out there who are trying to maintain a practical and presentable image in their everyday attire without compromising their faith. Whether you have a passion for fashion or just want to look polished and professional in the workplace, Haute Hijab offers classic, versatile pieces that provide the practicality and modesty you need. It really helps deliver that confidence boost we’ve been seeking for years!

What are you most excited about in working with Haute Hijab?

What’s most exciting about this job is that I get to work with two things I love: my faith, and of course, fashion! Working for Haute Hijab gives me an opportunity to contribute to such a wonderful cause. Fashion is an industry I’ve always wanted to be a part of, and nothing beats working for a company that combines my faith along with my passion in such a beautiful way.

Tell us something unique about yourself.

I love to design and create things, but I never tried my hand at designing actual apparel. Earlier this year, I came across an ad for the 2011 SilkRoute StyleIn Jilbab Design Competition and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try my hand at fashion design. While I only entered one design into the contest, I managed to place 5th runner up! It was an extremely educational and rewarding experience and has inspired me to keep designing in the future inshAllah.
